High intensity interval training (HIIT) is a type of interval training in which you alternate short, very high intensity intervals with, with less-intense recovery periods.
The idea is to work in the higher percentage of the maximal heart rate or be working in the highest end of the perceived exertion scale. Which means you go all out during the intervals. This allows the body to work in the anaerobic zone and allows for different fitness adaptions.
